Hey Gongoozlers!
Ever tried gongoozling? On Sunday 28th September, join us at 2:45pm at Paddington Station’s canal exit for Gerry’s Gongoozling, a boat-led canal procession facilitated by Gerry’s Pompeii, along with some wild and talented artists.
We’ll parade together along the towpath, ending at Gerry’s Pompeii, a magical canal-side sculpture garden created by Gerry Dalton, an endlessly imaginative artist who transformed his West London neighborhood into a vibrant, visionary wonderland.
Gerry’s Pompeii is more than a place; it’s a spirit of creativity and community. Our charity works to preserve his legacy by supporting local artists and creating inclusive, playful art (and absurd) experiences in an area that really needs it.
Volunteering with us requires no experience, just enthusiasm and a bit of sparkle (that's the dress code!). There are a broad range of categories to pick from depending on your personality and capabilities:
1. People Charmer
Chat with the crowd, collect fun stories, gather engaging feedback, and maybe sneak in a cheeky donation ask waving your Izettle around. If you’re good with words and interested in how the event is documented, this role’s got your name on it. (6 people)
2. Artist’s Sidekick
Help artists with props and coordinate their equipment, hype their performances, or join the crowd to keep them on the right track. Our collaborators vary from performers, storytellers, gesture based signalling, auditory experiences and a full blown shebeen with food, drink and DJ’s. (10 people)
3. Documentation Scout
Ideally you have had some experience in documenting events but you would follow and help direct the videographer and photographer so they got the best shots (1 person)
4. Merry Marshall
If you like being responsible and gently bossy and work in the manner of Gerry’s soldiers we’ll need you to help keep the pace of the parade and help slow down cyclists and protect the crowd
5. Boat Boss
Help keep the boats sailing smoothly and working with each captain and keeping time with the paraders, and help Sienna work with GiG Buddies an organisation that works with adults with complex learning needs. If you like the water and would rather avoid the walk, this is your jam. (2 people)

Volunteer antics…
We are looking for enthusiastic, creative and dynamic volunteers to help us join a more regular volunteering team to support on various (mostly pretty joyful) tasks this year in the lead up to some off our upcoming (soon to be revealed events)..
Tasks will include:
Being a local ambassador for Gerry’s, presenting to and understanding local interests and needs, spreading the word to different local groups and flying for various events.
Helping out at upcoming Gerry related events including workshops, fundraisers and tours.
Researching hot-spots along the Grand Union canal.
Helping Io on the garden and Zelda on conservation and archive…
